MICRO Magazine Signs as Media Sponsor for ISMI Symposium in October; Conference to Focus on Fab Cost Reduction

Sponsor and Exhibitor Opportunities Remain

Austin, TX (1 May 2006)– MICRO Magazine has become the initial media sponsor of the 3rd ISMI Symposium for Manufacturing Effectiveness, a globally oriented conference designed to share data and methods for reducing expenses in semiconductor production fabs.

Scheduled October 9-11 at the Hilton Austin Airport and sponsored by the International SEMATECH Manufacturing Initiative (ISMI), the Symposium is oriented both to existing and next-generation microchip factories, with emphasis on cost control through advances in equipment, process, resources, fab design, and manufacturing methods.

“Without productive and effective manufacturing practices, chipmakers and their suppliers will struggle to achieve and maintain profitability in the current consumer-driven global semiconductor market,” said Tom Cheyney, Editor in Chief of MICRO and www.micromagazine.com. “MICRO welcomes the opportunity to partner with ISMI and its Symposium to help spread the word about how the industry can make significant progress in key areas, such as the transition to the next wafer size, productivity improvement, yield enhancement, and green manufacturing.”

The three-day meeting will offer parallel sessions on challenges involving fab and equipment productivity; environment, safety and health (ESH); fab design; defect inspection; statistical methods; modeling and simulation; and e‑manufacturing. In addition, the Symposium will feature a panel discussion of industry experts on the status of 450 mm wafer conversion and a first-time display of exhibitors’ products.

Mike Schwartz, Symposium organizer and ISMI program manager, said opportunities remain for papers in a wide variety of disciplines, including:

  • Process- and equipment-related productivity improvement.
  • Yield modeling and yield improvement methodologies.
  • Factory metrology and integrated metrology.
  • Real-time collection and management of data for factories and equipment.
  • Design for ESH, resource conservation, and manufacturing sustainability.
  • E-manufacturing implementations.
  • Design for manufacturing.

“We also have sponsorships and exhibition space available for a global audience of an anticipated 300 industry leaders,” Schwartz noted. Details can be viewed at  http://ismi.sematech.org/ismisymposium/.
